About Warwick Tyrrell - Musical Director

Warwick photoWarwick Tyrrell is one of Australia's most accomplished musicians. He was Principal Trombonist of the London Philharmonic Orchestra for three years and the Adelaide Symphony for nine; Outright Winner of THE International Trombone Comopetition in 1988 and 1st Prize winner in the 1984 ABC Instrumental & Vocal Competition. He was also honoured in a televised event as The SA Young Achiever Of The Year 1988. Warwick has appeared as a Concerto Soloist with the Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Queensland and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras as well as the London Philharmonic in London and in South Africa. He has had concertos especially commissioned for him by the ABC to play and record. The Australian Broadcasting Corporation offered him a recording contract to record trombone concertos which went on sale internationally. It was described in the "Green recording guide" as "the most exciting offering to come from the ABC Classics label to date".

Warwick is also a trained singer. He was a soloist in recitals, Babies Proms at the Opera House and also worked as a session singer in Sydney. He auditioned successfully for ensemble and cover roles in the Australian professional productions of Jolson(starring Rob Guest) & Cabaret(starring Tina Arena, Toby Allen, and Lisa McCune).

Four years ago Warwick began a new career path as conductor. He has studied with the Queensland Youth Orchestra as part of a Fellowship awarded to him by the Australia Council. He was also accepted into the Symphony Australia Conducting Course and worked with the Tasmanian Symphony and the Queensland Orchestra. Until recently Warwick was Artistic Director to Sutherland Shire Brass and also The Bankstown Carols (a large outdoor Christmas event which attracts up to 10,000 people). With Sutherland Shire Brass, Warwick led them to become State Champions and he also designed and began a series of concerts with them which have been incredibly successful - regularly selling out houses in the Sutherland Entertainment Centre. This year Warwick is bringing other bands and orchestras to the Sutherland Entertainment Centre.

Warwick is happily married to Donna and they have been blessed with four beautiful children, Benjamin, Isabella, Genevieve and Thomas.
